Sugar Maple Farms
If you’ve come to La Cuisine for breakfast and sampled our waffles or pancakes, you know that we serve real maple syrup. In keeping with our mission of serving fresh and delicious food that is local when possible, we source our syrup from a farm here in Connecticut.
Sugar Maple Farms, located in Lebanon, CT, was founded in 2006 by Chuck Haralson and Jim Jahoda. When they started, Jim had over 25 years of experience making syrup while Chuck brought his 30 years of business experience to the farm and now manages sales. Jim taught Chuck the ins and outs of making syrup, from tapping trees, laying lines, collecting sap and cooking it down. Jim is also a skilled Beekeeper. So naturally, they are now producing honey. Hives are in several locations in and around the Lebanon area. The honey that is pulled is kept in the raw state and has become a popular item. They also grow horseradish, garlic, potatoes and various melons. Sugar Maple Farms syrup and honey are available for sale in the cafe. Below you can see pictures from the outside and inside of the sugar house.
WELLfed Fundraiser
Last month, La Cuisine was honored to participate in WELLfed’s Winter safe water fundraiser in Centerbrook, CT. The event was a great success and helped to fund two new wells in Uganda, in partnership with Call To Care Uganda, which will deliver clean water to over 2350 people for a lifetime! You can find more info about Earth2’s WELLfed initiative here.
