The Café is Open!News

We are cooking! The Café is open Tuesday through Sunday

It’s true – you can walk in the door, sit at a table, look at a menu and enjoy breakfast or lunch in the Café. Alena and Brendan manage a waitstaff eager to see you. Uli is working closely with Vin and Peter to be sure that your meal is prepared to your liking. Today’s version of the menu is included for your review, but please understand, we are still tinkering with it, and there may be changes when you do come in. We post a current copy of the menu on www.takeouttonight.com.

Everything, other than the H & H Bagels from the city and some of the breads, is made right here. All butter scratch baking is done every morning by Cecelia and Natalie, as they turn out delectable croissant and brioche, together with scones, muffins, coffee cakes and more.  Sticky Buns appear on the weekends only, and usually sell out by 11.

Breakfast can start with our dark, rich Rwandan coffee or a pot of loose tea, fresh squeezed juice, and move through our house baked pastry basket to a three egg omelet with your choice of 16 fillings. If you’re in a hurry, grab a Breakfast Buddy with a fried egg, cheddar and ham or bacon on an English muffin. The Corned Beef Hash is made from the trimmings accumulated from our corned beef sandwich. There is Smoked Salmon for your bagels, organic Yogurt with house baked Granola or fresh fruit, Three Grain Hotcakes with Guilford Maple Syrup, and Oatmeal, slow cooked, not instant.

Lunch provides La Cuisine an opportunity to show you our take on the standards. We haven’t reinvented the wheel, simply tuned it up a bit. Again – it’s all made here other than the breads. Soups are prepared with our own stocks, no commercial bases. Most of our salad greens are organic. We roast the natural beef, pork and turkey for sandwiches, smoke the chicken, ribs and brisket featured in our BBQ of the Day, and in general, take care with great products, looking to enhance, not mask their natural flavors. The fries are hand cut each day, and there are simply no trans fats in the building.

And then...........Dessert! Baked here, all butter, scrumptious. cookies, brownies and bars, a delightful array of cupcakes, mile high apple pie, cheesecake, fruit tarts, carrot cake with fluffy cream cheese icing, and then the more decadent Boston Cream Cake and Black Velvet. You need to try them to understand why we get so excited every time Cecelia or Natalie pass the swinging door from the bakery on their way to the pastry case with another delectable offering.

Join us in a warm, inviting room, bathed in sunlight. The napkins are folded, silverware polished, plates at the ready. Eggs are fresh, the pastry warm from the oven, the coffee hot. We are, finally, ready to greet you. See you soon.

Fondue is fun!

Fondue!

We’ve been enjoying both sweet and savory fondue, trying different blends of chocolate both dark and white, as well as a variety of cheese blends. We typically pre skewer everything, eliminating the awkward stabbing of ingredients at the table. Glass blocks have been used as a base, allowing us to illuminate the table with many votives visible through the glass.

I know, we haven’t had a chance to enjoy Thanksgiving yet, but it is time to think about Holiday parties. Once again, we can take care of everything for you, including food, staff, beverages, rentals and more, or you can select a few items from the Market and do it yourself. The menus – available below in PDF format – give you an idea of some of the options available. Download them and keep them handy. We make entertaining on the fly very simple.
